Gold signet ring with octagonal bezel engraved with a lion rampant within a dotted border. The bezel oriented in the same direction as the loop, the back of the bezel with a maker's mark: the letter B (?) in a lozenge, this mark does not occur on any of the rings in the British Museum collections and we have not been able to identify it.

The ring dates from the 16th or early 17th Century.

Notes:

Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

Current location of find: Following return to finder, this finger-ring was straightened and sold, in agreement with the landowner and finder at Timeline Auctions sale of 05/02/14 (Lot 0488)
Subsequent action after recording: Declared Treasure but returned to Finder as Museum unable to acquire
