Post Medieval cast copper alloy trade weight probably from the reign of Charles I (1625-1649) or Charles II (1660-1685). The weight is circular with a wide raised rim on the top. It is 20.0mm in diameter by 3.6mm thick and weighs 6.31 grams, 0.222oz. It has probably lost weight through corrosion and damage and was originally a quarter of an ounce weight. It is badly dented and scratched and the marks are patinated. This damage has obscured the marks but is on both sides so is probably not needed. It would have originally been part of a set of weights and bears official marks showing it was made in London and verified by the founders company allowing it to be used in markets and shops as an official weight.
The only stamps still visible are:
Probably a Crowned C (for Charles I or II) near the centre.
An ewer (for the founders company who had a Royal charter to verify trade weights) at 6 o'clock.
