A medieval copper-alloy sheet buckle plate with in-situ rivet and pin bar. The plate is made from one folded rectangular piece of copper alloy. A rectangular slot has been removed from the fold to allow for the pin, and the external sides of the fold have been removed to allow for the frame. The frame and pin are now missing but the cylindrical pin bar has survived. At the opposite end of the plate is an in-situ rivet. On one external face of the plate, at the rivet end, are four stamped lines; one of these continues over the rivet suggested that the rivet was in place before the plate was decorated. The other external face of the plate is undecorated and is slightly shorter. The plate is covered in a dark green patina, measures 27.5mm (length) x 16.2mm (width) x 3.2mm (thickness) and weighs 3.82g.
Egan illustrated a number of similar buckle plates (1991, 113-114; ref. 511 ff.), which he dates to c. 1350-1400 AD.
