Post-Medieval cast copper-alloy mount with integral attachment spikes. The mount has a main plate with a slightly convex front and flat back. The plate is triangular in form with a short side at one end decorated with three indents with cusps between, it narrows to a point at the other end with a slight expansion into a knop at the point. The reverse has two projecting integral rivets, on the central line about one third of the way in from each end. Both are circular in section and narrow to a point. Both are bent at 90 degrees pointing away from the pointed end. The mount measures 22.6mm long, 11.4mm wide, 2.2mm thick (not including the rivets), 4.8mm thick (including) and weighs 2.26g.
Noel Hume (1972: 240, 242) suggests that small mounts of this form with double pointed prongs were used on horse harness and suggests they can be attributed to c.1690-1770 AD. It is likely in Britain some were earlier in date.
