An incomplete post-Medieval cast silver double-looped buckle (1500-1650 AD). Treasure case no. 2012 T1.
One loop and the pin are missing. The surviving loop is D-shaped, flat at the front and rear and the narrowed bar is triangular in cross-section. A small knop projects at each end of the bar. The front of the outer edge is bevelled on the outer and inner sides and the breaks are old.
A similar silver buckle has been recorded from Tendring District, Essex (TAR 2009 T620; ESS-F4D4A5).
19.6mm (length); 18.8mm (width); 1.6mm (thickness). Weight: 1.53g.
The find contains a minimum of 10% silver and predates 1711. It thus qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of precious metal content and age.
