Pottery body sherd made of gabbroic clay that weathers over the gabbro outcrop on the Lizard in Cornwall. The fabric has inclusions of pale felspars, dark augite and mica and is mid-brown on the exterior and dark brown on the interior of the sherd. This 'mucky' gabbroic fabric looks the same as that of one of the other two sherds in the image, 523.6A, and the sherds 523.2, 523.3 & 523.4, so that they may have come from the same vessels. This type of fabric is seen in Grooved Ware vessels, dating from c.2900-2400 BC (Henrietta Quinnell, forthcoming).

Notes:

This sherd is bottom left of the image. See next record for image of exteriors of sherds.
