A sub-circular silver disc of Medieval date, probably from a reliquary pendant. The sub-circular disc has a maximum diameter of 20.41mm and the edges curve over backwards. The disc is flat with a thickness of 0.64mm. The surface is decorated with the engraved letters ihc on a background of diagonal incised lines, pointing top left to bottom right. The surface of the letters are smooth and undecorated as is a narrow border at the edge of the disc c.1.11mm wide. The back of the disc is undecorated but there are some fine lines that are likely to be impressions from a cuttlefish therefore indicating that a cuttlefish mould was used in the manufacture of this artefact. The disc weighs 1.51g.
This disc is probably a fragment of a reliquary pendant dating 1350-1500. It looks very similar to a silver-gilt reliquary pendant recorded on the P.A.S. database as YORYM-6CE0B1 and assigned treasure number 2007T598. No evidence of gilt can be seen on this disc. See Treasure Annual Report 2007, p.134 & 379, no.293.
