A complete medieval or post medieval lead alloy circular uniface token, c. AD 1250-1800, Powell Class 14. The token has been cast with a raised design of a equal arm cross with a pellet in each quarter, all within a raised plain rim, on the obverse and a flat, undecorated reverse.
Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally; they are therefore hard to date precisely and could be medieval or post medieval in date. Until recently cross and pellet designs were thought to be contemporary with the similar medieval coin designs; however publication of moulds and double faced tokens which combine post medieval initial style designs with cross and pellets suggest the latter continued into the post medieval period.
