An incomplete cast copper alloy small long brooch of early-medieval date. The head of the brooch is rectangular and decorated with a border of annulet stamps. From the bottom of the head an integrally cast D-sectioned bow extends arching at roughly 45 degrees and tapering slightly in width. At the apex of the curve the bow turns downwards again at 45 degrees returning to the same plane as the head. At this point the bow continues flat and is decorated with a series of collars. The last of these collars is the widest and from here the brooch terminates in a spatulate foot again decorated with a border of annulet stamps.
From the reverse of the head the pin lug remains and is filled with iron corrosion. The pin proper no longer remains. From the reverse of the lower bow the worn remains of the catchplate can be seen though only a tiny portion survives.
The metal is a mid brownish-green colour and is worn. The brooch is 72.9mm long, 27.4mm wide, 7.5mm thick and weighs 15.5g. A similar example can be seen in EAA 84, p.139, fig.23, no.8.
