A single disc from a silver cuff link. The surviving circular fastener is a circular 'button' with a flange around the edge and a hollow reverse. The attachment loop is missing. It is decorated in counter-relief with a pair of hearts beneath a crown on a stippled ground.
This motif, commonly found on 17th-century cuff-links and buttons, may have celebrated the marriage of Charles II and Catherine of Braganza in 1662 (Read 2008, 98, no. 388; Treasure Annual Report 2001, 81, no. 153; Treasure Annual Report 2005/6, 139, no. 614). Compare SWYOR-66C262 (2011 T322), NMS-F72E82 ( 2010 T815) and NMS-BE7442 (2011 T313).
Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
