A worn but complete cast copper-alloy Early-Medieval/Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup mount of Williams' Class A Type 14. It is cross-shaped in from, D-shaped in section, expanding to a triangular base that folds backwards to form a rectangular flange set at an angle of 45 degrees. At the centre of the cross is a large circular rivet hole, with the remains of two fursther rivet holes, now encrusted with corroded iron, visible in the flange. The front face of the mount has traces of moulded decoration comprising a grooved border on the triangular base and possible traces of additional decoration on the arms but this is uncertain due to post-depositional wear and corrosion. The entire object measures 48.14mm in length, 32.85mm in width, 4.90mm in thickness, and weighs 21.49g.
This is an Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup mount of Early-Medieval date. The cross-shaped plate and triangular base indicates it belongs in Williams' Class A Type 14 mounts, with a total of nine similar parallels noted by him (Williams, 1997: pp. 75-77). This indicates a date range in the 11th century AD for the current object.
