A cast copper-alloy heraldic harness pendant of medieval date. It has a lozenge shaped plate with integrally cast oval shaped suspension loop at the top, which is set at an angle of ninety degrees to the plane of the plate and has a small circular aperture. The front face of the pendant carries a heraldic device comprising two chevrons separated by a bar, over which one quarter has four ermine. Traces of gilding are visible to the bottom of the front face. This suggests that the blazon of the arms was 'Or a fess between two chevrons, overall a canton ermine'. It measures 35.17mm in length, 24.38mm n width, 2.17mm in thickness and 5.08g in weight.
This is a heraldic harness pendant of medieval date, with a near identical example recorded through the PAS from the same parish (SF-B81D32). The arms could therefore be those of the de Ilketshale family, which were 'Or a fess between two chevrons gules, a canton ermine' (colours sometimes given in reverse: Gules a fess between two chevrons or, a canton ermine). This family of knights had lands in the Ilketshalls, near Bungay in N.E. Suffolk: Sir James de Ilketshale died c.1262; son Sir James died c.1312; son Sir James living 1316; sons Sir Robert (d. 1361) and Sir Philip. It is likely to date to c.1262-1361 AD.
