WEIGHT

Unique ID: SWYOR-FC7871

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A cast lead alloy weight in the shape of a heart dating from about the Medieval to Post-Medieval periods. The weight has a raised design consisting of a small cross in the centre with a pellet in each angle. The top also appears to have had a raised border but this has been worn away. The bottom of the weight is flat and smooth but it is slightly concave in the centre. It weighs 3 and 3/4oz so probably originally weighed 4oz. The weight has a creamy medium brown patina with the design being enhanced by a creamy light brown patina. Compare also to PAS record IDs: NARC-2E1212 and NLM7089. Heart shaped weights are also discussed in Biggs and Withers.

Length: 40.4mm; Width: 41.9mm; Thickness: 11mm; Weight: 105.42g
