A cast copper alloy strap end, dating to the 9th Century AD. The strap end is in Thomas Class A Type 1, being broadly rectangular with slowly tapering ends, especially at the 'snout' end. The strap end is divided into three areas; the 'snout', zoomorphic in design with pronounced ears, a central panel of an interlaced beast in Trewhiddle style with degrading niello, and the 'tail' end that has two circular rivet holes and a split in the copper sheeting for the insertion of and the attachment to a leather strap. The reverse is plain and undecorated. The strap end survives in very good condition.
