A copper-alloy hooked tag. It has a broadly rectangular body with stepped neck into a sharp curved hook that has a rectangular cross-section. There is an open sub-rectangular area towards the top of the main body where the tag would have been attached (probably sewn) to clothing, a bag or similar. The front of the tag is decorated with neatly spaced multiple punched annulets over the body and down onto the neck. The reverse is undecorated. The hooked tag is complete and in very good condition.
From its lightweight construction and punched decoration, the tag probably dates to the early-medieval period (8th-12th centuries), although Read notes that the one example he cites may be 16th-century (Read 2008, p. 21, no.95; this is probably due to its single rectangular attachment hole, which is reminiscent of the slots of Tudor hooked tags.
