A post-Medieval cast copper-alloy strap fitting (1600-1700 AD).
The fitting is flat, sub-triangular in plan and sub-rectangular in cross-section. At one end it has a cross piece formed by two projecting rounded lugs close to lozenge terminal. It has a rounded terminal at the opposite end which is pierced to accommodate an iron rivet.
A single entity of openwork in the body consists of a trefoil shape of two sub-circular and one sub-triangular opening. This openwork is bevelled at the front. The rear face is flat.
This fitting has a green patina and some small areas of corrosion. The iron rivet is corroded.
35.7 x 17.9 x 2.7mm. Weight: 3.77g.
Examples of this type of strap fitting (without a hook) from south-west Wiltshire has been published and dated to the 17th century (Read 2001: 30. fig. 25, refs: 356 and 357).
