A copper alloy Medieval buckle frame and plate. The frame is oval, and is expanded with moulded decoration to form a pin rest at the cenre of the outside edge. The bar is narrowed and offset, and their are square knops to top and bottom. The knops and the pin-rest are decorated with incised lines on their upper surfaces. The plate is a triangular shape and is recessed to fit the bar, with a pin hole at the centre. The pin is in situ and moves freely on the bar. It is made from sheet metal and wraps around the bar, tapering to a point where it reaches the pin-rest. The plate has rounded shoulders to top and bottom, and there are three large dome-headed rivets linking the front and back plates. There is punch decoration forming narrow lines which outline the upper surface of the plate, and expand around the terminal rivet, forming three petal shapes.
The buckle frame and plate together measure 42.58mm in length, 33.91mm in width, and weigh 15g.
