Lithic Implement: Complete worked flint blade of probable Mesolithic to Neolithic date (8300-2100 BC). The flint is mottled dark grey and mid grey in colour with patches of white marbling and small superficial flaws. It is a tertiary flake with no cortex remaining, there are 5 vertical flake removals evident on the dorsal face. The ventral face still has the bulb of percussion and ripples from the striking process. There is a notable flaw in the flint about half way down the ventral aspect. The distal end of the blade has an overshot termination (also known as plunging termination). This type of termination is where the striking process has not achieved a clean straight blade removal from the core; this creates a hooked or curved termination to the blade. In this case it appears that some effort was made to modify this curved termination with further signs of knapping on the on the distal end of the dorsal face.

It is possible that this simple blade may date as early as the Upper Palaeolithic period 40000-8300 BC but without the finding of further diagnostic worked flint nearby, with working clearly identifiable as Upper Palaeolithic, it cannot be said with certainty. This blade has therefore been dated as probably Mesolithic to Neolithic in date.
