A Post-Medieval cast copper alloy sword-belt fitting. It is the hooked section of hook and eye clasp . The upper plate has a lozenge shape, and has a tear-drop shaped attachment riveted through it to form a stud which would have been fixed through a leather strap. The lower part of the plate is a narrow rectangular strip with a pair of transverse knops halfway along. This tapers to a tip which is curved forward to create a close-butted loop or hook. See Read 2008 no.801 for an object with a similar function, but lacking the stud for attachment.
The fitting measures 22.65mm in length and weighs 2.78g.
