An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester type brooch of Roman date. The head of the brooch consists of the wings extending 4.3mm either side of the bow with concaved reverse. Above these is an upward turning worn hook which would have held the spring in place. No part of the spring or pin remains. The bow is narrow with a 'D' shaped cross section, 6.8mm wide at widest and tapers slightly towards a rounded foot. The solid undecorated catch plate remains intact. A similar example can be seen in Hattatt, p.297, fig.156, no.1455 and dates to the 1st century AD.
The brooch is 33.1mm long and weighs 2.97 grams.
