Cast lead spindle whorl probably dating to the Medieval period, (1100-1500). The object is circular in plan and flat. The object has a central circurlar perforation. On one face the object is decorated with a groove surrounding the perforation. Linear decoration expands from this groove to the edges of the object. No decoration can be seen on the opposite face. The object has a light brown patina and is worn.
Similar examples of spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dated from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period although the majority are typically dated broadly to the Medieval period c.1066-1500.
