Late Bronze Age gold plated cast copper alloy panannular ring of near circular cross section. Date {c1300-750 BC}. The ring is composite with gold foil wrapped around a copper alloy core. The gold cover is plain with no visible decoration or contrasting colouring. The object is in good condition other than what looks like some slight plough damage but is incomplete having part of the gold covering missing on one side of the open end revealing the copper alloy within. These types of rings have been descibed as possible forms of currency and/or used as hair ornaments. Diameter 19mm, 7mm Thick, Weight 11.9 grams.
Notes:
Found on arable land approx 6 inches below soil.
No other associated objects have been found as yet.
Reported to the British Museum on 11/90, Deposit No. 621 and identified as a composite ring of gold foil wrapped around a copper alloy core. Returned to me on 03/1991.
