A cast lead Medieval weight dating from the 13th and 14th Centuries onwards. It is sub circular in plan and flat in profile, with a sloping top and flat base. It is shallower at one side and there is a possible border design. There may also have been a design in the centre but the weight is too worn to be precise. The object weighs 224g (7.9oz), so was probably intended to be an 8oz weight. The weight has a grey-brown patina. There are deep scratches in the material demarcated by a dark grey colour. Examples may be found in both Egan's The Medieval Household (page 312, figure 232, number 981) and Biggs and Withers' Lead Weights (page 22-23). Please also compare to PAS record ID: CORN-F1C5D6.
