An incomplete cast copper alloy Medieval stirrup strap mount from the late 11th century. It is sub-triangular in shape. There is an integral loop at the top; at approximately the centre of the mount is a pair of off-centred lobes. The interior of the mount is decorated with four downward curving lines of indentations, which were most likely inlaid, now missing; the top three lines of indentations have three each, and the bottom line has four. There is some remaining red niello between the third and last line; this area appears to protrude from the mount, and may be a debased animal head (Williams 1997, 78). The back is mostly flat with a convex lip following the edge of the mount, except along the bottom, where it is straight; this straight section contains the remains of an iron rivet. The mount is in fair condition, with corrosion and missing decorative niello. Williams Class A type 17. It measures 34.1 mm L x 30.7 mm W x 13.4 mm H and weighs 26.1 g.
