Post-Medieval gold posy ring. The ring is a plain band with a D-shaped section, undecorated on the exterior. The interior of the ring is engraved with the motto 'Let vertue rule affection'. The hoop has been slightly damaged, causing the hoop to be a little misshapen.
As the hoop is slightly flattened, the original diameter of the ring is likely to be around 18mm. A very similar ring (2010 T440), from a neighbouring parish in Devon, was reported in 2010. The two rings have a very similar weight and diameter (2010 T440 weight- 2.04g; diameter 18mm). The rings both bear the same inscription and are written in a similar style. However, 2010 T440 bears a mark of a 'W' within a diamond; there is no maker's mark visible on 2011 T670. In absence of an identifiable maker's mark this ring cannot be dated to pre-1711, and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
