A silver gilt iconographic style Medieval finger ring, dating to the 15th Century AD. The ring is complete and in very good condition with little damage or wear. The ring has a three-facetted bezel (measuring 13.25mm long and 3.19mm thick), the side panels being decorated with crude foliate designs and the top panel decorated with crudely incised lines in four small panels. The shoulders of the hoop are moulded stylised acanthus leaves, while further round the hoop is another small moulded division, again similar to an acanthus leaf beneath two horizontal bands, also echoed on the opposite side of the band. A number of similar examples have been recorded on this database. AD 1400-1499.
Notes:
As this ring is over 300 years old and is more than 10% gold or silver it qualified as Treasure under the stipulations of the 1996 Act. Unfortunately no museum was able to acquire it and it has been returned to the finder.
