A copper-alloy sheet binding, sub-circular in plan, of probable post-medieval date. The piece has suffered a longitudinal crack but it has only been slightly distorted in plan. The thin strip is flat at one end and cusped on the other other giving it the superficial appearance of a crown. The cusping is formed of triangles each with small semicircular cusps. An upper zone from just below the cusps is delineated by a double longitudinally incised line; the area below is plain, as is the internal surface. The upper zone is decorated with punched curvilinear decoration. Above the longitudinal grooves a pair of curved lines converge into each triangular cups. Two further pairs of short lines travel upwards, one at the point of the converging lines, the other at their other ends. There is a punched annulet between each of the converging lines and therefore between the cusps. The zones within the centres of the annulets and between the converging lines are filled with very fine pellet decoration. Traces of gilt are retained within some of the incised lines. The object is slightly splayed from the base to the cusped end. Some of the cusps have been bent slightly, both inwards and out. The metal now has an even mid-green patina.
