Unique ID: KENT-E39A35

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A complete Medieval lead alloy cast seal matrix. The seal matrix is pointed oval (vesica), with an integral non-pierced lug at the top of a sprue on the reverse. The front has a retrograde inscription running counterclockwise along the edge of the seal matrix; it reads S'WI(LL) [-] FIL ALVRED. The inscription is bound above and below by a single line. The centre contains an arrow piercing a circle, or possily a heart; the arrow tip points at the end of the seal which contains the middle of the inscription (FIL), with the circle, or heart, located towards the nock of the arrow. It is in good condition; it is light blue, with some beige encrustations in the voids of the seal. It measures 29.14 mm L x 18.05 mm W x 4.25 mm TH and weighs 11.29 g.

A similar seal matrix central design can be seen on the database BUC-452987
