A copper-alloy single-loop buckle of Medieval date.
The frame is trapezoidal, widening towards the expanded outer side, which has an incised pin rest at the centre. The horizontal sides of the frame are slightly bowed and of rectangular section; the axis bar is of circular section. The plate is folded around the axis bar and comprises two roughly equal-sized rectangular sides. At the frame end is a slot, surrounding which is iron corrosion from the missing pin. A single rivet, also missing, would have held the two sides of the plate to together and secured the strap. The holes for this rivet are located at the non-frame end, roughly halfway down. The buckle is bent and corroded. It measures 36.5mm long, 19.9mm wide, 4.1mm thick and weighs 7.3g.
