An incomplete cast lead or lead alloy 'vesica' type seal matrix, of Medieval dating (c. 1250 - c.1350 AD).
The seal matrix is a vesica shaped die (oval with pointed ends), with an incomplete probable tab handle. The handle has a rectangular cross section.
The die depicts a six legged curvilinear stylised floral design, surrounded by the legend around the edge. The legend can be read. It appears to read +SIGIL hENR:FIL:ROBTI. Inscriptions on seal matrixes of this type tend to be in the form of 'XXX, Son of XXX', which in this case means "Seal of Henry, son of Robert".
The seal matrix is a light to mid green colour, with an even surface patina present. Some of the edges demonstrate a minor degree of abrasion, resulting in the illegibility of the inscription and roughening around the edges.
The seal matrix measures 36.48mm tall, 21.72mm wide and 6.69mm thick. It weighs 20.3 grams.
This seal matrix is probably that of a personal one, although the individual can not be identified at present.
