An unusually small cast copper alloy foot from a probable Medieval vessel. The foot is broadly triangular in section with a flat back and sides and a slight rounding on the front point. The foot is flared, wider at the bottom than to top, in a hoof-like shape. It measures 24.7mm in length, 14.3mm in width at the bottom and 10.2mm at the top, 14.5mm in thickness and weighs 16.65g. A parallel can be seen on this database in SWYOR-2BD225.
Unlike other examples of this type (e.g. BH-420CE5), there is no collar at the top of the foot before the leg. However, it is possible that the old break at the top of the foot is below the original collar. Butler, Green and Payne (2009, pg. 4) suggest that this triangular cross section and no outer decorative ribs (type b) date to the late 15th / early 16th centuries based on evidence from the Mary Rose. The small size may suggest it is from a small skillet or pan, possibly for serving as well as cooking.
