A copper alloy Early Saxon small-long brooch, with the base of the bow and footplate missing (break not ancient), edges scuffed, some surface pitting but otherwise unabraded. There are triangular stamped impressions along the top and sides of the headplate. There are side notches and two transverse engraved lines on the rectangular panel forming facets at the top of the flattened D-sectioned bow, which is decorated with a median groove. Set in a perforation through the single pin lug on the reverse is a short length (7mm) of copper alloy square-sectioned (2mm) wire. Length >34mm. Width 20.5mm. Leeds 1945 cross pattée derivative group C. It dates from the end of the 5th-beginning of the 6th century.
