A complete and misshapen cast lead cap for a powder measure. The open end of the cap is distorted and has a low external bead at the rim. The closed end of the cap is oval. It is thicker than the sides and has a slightly chamfered edge. Projecting from the edge at the closed end are two integral loops set opposite each other.
Date: Post-Medieval - c. 1600-1700
Dimensions: 14.24 mm x 26.60 mm x 17.31 mm
Weight: 13.71 g
The cap would have been part of a small flask holding enough powder for a complete charge for the weapon, several of which were attached to the bandolier. The loops enabled the cap to be attached separately to the bandolier (belt) of the wearer so that they could be removed without being lost.
