A copper alloy annular mount of probable Post Medieval date. The object is formed from a flat band, curved round to form an annular shape, with one terminal just overlapping the other. One terminal is narrowed to an oval shape, and the other is incomplete due to old breaks. The band is about 1.8mm in thickness, and gradually expands in width from 5mm at the oval terminal, to a maximum of 8mm, except for one rectangular area, 9.6mm x 8.7mm, defined by a narowing of the band to either side. The mount weighs 2.15g. It may have been used as a binding ring or fitting, for strengthening a bone or wooden object such as a casket, or from a piece of furniture. It bears a superficial resemblance to a finger ring, but its small size and nature of the band suggest an alternative use as a fitting.
