An incomplete cast copper alloy strap fitting of probable Post Medieval date (c1550-c1700 AD. The plate is broadly sub rectangular in plan with expanded rounded terminals. In cross section it is rectangular, and the edges are slightly facetted/ bevelled. On the upper edge of one end is a pointed knop. The knop at the lower end is slightly rounded and may be broken. The front face is decorated with a cast and incised design consisting of debased foliate C shaped scrolls forming an interlaced design (possibly a heart each with a fleur-de-lis within) at the mid point. The reverse is flat and plain. It consists of a single plate with a spike which is now bent. There is evidence for a possible second spike on the other end as commonly seen in this type of strap fitting but this has been broken and only a minute fraction remains. The strap fitting has a mid green patina with an orange/yellow patina within the design. See also PAS record ID: HESH-9D5B97.
