Copper alloy gilt
Buckle. Cast single looped buckle with integral plate with a rolled loop at its slightly expanded end. The pin occupies a slot flanked by a pair of low knops. Two rivet holes of diameter 2.3mm attached the plate to a strap. Gilding remains at the terminal and in a longitudinal central strip between the terminal and the second rivet hole, and retains traces of a cross hatched surface finish which is otherwise lost. Suggested date: Medieval, 1250-1400.
