An incomplete Medieval silver long cross penny of Edward I (1272-1307 AD). The coin has lost a section of the flan outside the beaded border from a 7 o'clock to 9 o'clock position on the obverse. The reverse legend reads CIVI/TAS/LON/D[ON] indicating the coin was minted at the London mint. The form of drapery and the style of the crown suggest that this coin is a Class 3(b); North English Hammered Coins Vol 2 (1991) p28; No.1017. The coin date of issue is 1280 AD.
