An almost complete medieval jug, plain and round-bottomed; the front of the neck is missing. The jug is made in an oxidised orange fabric with a fine sand temper. Around the base angle there is deep parallel grooving. Olive glaze has been splashed onto the upper body to about a half of the way down the body and onto the V-section handle. The rim is unglazed. Heavy turning lines appear on both exterior and interior surfaces. The exterior is much blackened perhaps by continual soaking in a discoloured water or soaked soil. The glaze is also greatly discoloured. There are three punctures which have penetrated inwards from the exterior surface.
The jug gives the impression of having been carelessly potted and mass produced.
Notes:
It is unerstood that this jug (and SUR-35E9A2) was found by the grandfather of the man who submitted it for recording either on a bombsite in London c1955 or during the digging of the Blackwall Tunnel (the latter seems less likely).
