An incomplete copper alloy mount of medieval date. It consists of a rectangular plate with concave surface, with a trefoil or fleur-de-lis projection at one end. The outer foils, or leaves of the fleur, each have a circular hole which may originally have been used for attachment. In the centre of the fleur is a diagonal grooved cross or saltire.
The fleur-de-lis or trefoil terminal is connected to the rest of the long, thin mount by a narrowed concave neck. The mount then tapers very slightly to expand again at the broken end. The underside is flat and undecorated.
The mount is a mid to dark green / brown colour, with an even surface patina. Iron corrosion products (rust) are present at the opposite end to the trefoil, Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of surface detail.
The buckle measures 72.55mm in length, 17.42mm in width and is 4.31mm thick. It weighs 10.2g.
Compare shorter fleur-de-lis mounts such as BUC-B693B5, HAMP-6729BB and SWYOR-5557DB, which have additional rivet holes. SWYOR-B393D2, NLM-39669A and BERK-EFF69D have longer bodies but again different means of attachment.
