A cast copper alloy Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup terminal mount, dating from the 11th century AD. The terminal is zoomorphic and depicts a snub-nosed beast with ears, eyes, snout and lobe-ended tendrils depicted cleary. The beast resembles an animal such as a boar. The terminal has a hollow reverse with a slot in which the iron stirrup would have fitted; there is some damage to the terminal around the beast's right ear, but otherwise the terminal is lightly worn and in very good condition. It can be compared to the group of stirrup terminals illustrated in Williams (1997), fig. 2b. For comparative examples on this database, see WILT-ACB053, KENT-FBF387 & DOR-BCC693.
