The strap fitting is possibly from a book. The fitting is cast as a single piece, which has one terminal forming a 'n' shape in section instead of solid. In plan the item is shaped with an oval central portion, with one end terminating with a zoomorphic head. This head has aperpendicular hole through it. From the head is a wide snout. The head and snout is decorated with oblique lines. The oval portion has a central circular hole and is decorated on the upper face with punch marks forming straight and wavy lines. The other terminal of this oval shape has a trapezoidal shape protruding, which is also decorated by punch marks. It is this portion which has a the 'n' section. Between the trapezoidal shape and oval shape there is a high relief ridge dividing the two. The two corners of the trapezoidal shape has a single rivet hole. One rivet copper alloy rivet remains, the other rivet hole has iron staining. The reverse of the object is flat and undecorated. The item has a dark green matte patina.
