ROMAN SHERDS x10
Mortarium body sherd, 1st-4th century; pale cream fabric, dark grey grits (c.0.5-5mm); weight 11.30g.
Coarse greyware base sherd from a large storage vessel, 1st-4th century; simple flat base; quartz sands and white non-crystalline inclusions c.1mm-9mm. Probably handmade rather than wheelmade. Weight 35.97g.
Derbyshire ware sherds x8, 2nd/3rd century, (3 lid-seated rim sherds, 5 body sherds), 7 are grey reduced fired, 1 (a rim) is orange oxidised fired. Total weight 212.85g.
MEDIEVAL SHERDS x5
Strap handle/body sherd; 13th/14th century; buff fabric with grey outer surface, red-brown ?slip on the internal surface; overfired glaze next to handle; white quartz sands and black non-crystalline inclusions. Weight 47.18g.
Rim sherd probably from a large bowl/pancheon, orange sandy fabric with red slip on internal and external surfaces. 15th/16thcentury? Weight 42.45g.
Body sherds x3 : one 13th/14th century light orange fabric with yellow ?slip on the internal surface; spots of green glaze on the outer surface, weight 21.89g : one soft grey sandy fabric (similar to Roman Derbyshire ware but softer), 12th-15th century, white inclusions, 7.67g : one 15th-16th century early Midlands Purple ware, highly fired, red-purple fabric, drak grey surfaces with degraded glaze on outer surface, white inclusions, weight 9.60g.
POST MEDIEVAL SHERDS X4
One late 15th-17th century Midlands Purple/Black ware body sherd, grey fabric with numerous white and sparse orange non-crystalline inclusions; weight 12.45g;
Three 17th-19th century brown-glazed earthenware sherds (1 pancheon rim, 2 body); 2 are in orange fabric with cream streaks, 1 in cream fabric with light cream streaks (both types are coal measures clay); total weight 66.71g.
