Cast copper alloy clapper bell, Post Medieval in date.
It appears to have been tinned on the surface as it has a silvery looking patina. The bell is complete but is missing the clapper. It has an integral copper alloy attachment loop at the top, this has broken so the loop is open. The bell flares at the base, and on the inside is written the alphabet, it appears to have been cast into the design. On the outer edge it is worn but there appears to have been a pattern of diagonal lines.
This is an unusual bell design, as the alphabet would not have been visible so it is unclear quite what purpose it served putting it on the inside.
