A cast copper-alloy zoomorphic spout from a 15th-century pedestal-base ewer. In profile it is curved, terminating at the pouring spout in a moulded dog's head. The mouth of the dog is wide open, with an integral short tube protruding. The head is slightly angular, with a sub-rectangular ear on each side of the head; the ears protrude upwards above the crown of the head (although one is broken). The reverse of the spout curves downwards, and is open. The surface of the spout has a dark green patina with areas of brown where the surface metal survives. The spout has maximum dimensions of 64.5 mm long, 16.1 mm wide, 35 mm high and it weighs 60.3 grams.
Lewis (1987, fig. 8A) illustrates a very similar dog's head spout, dating them to the 15th century. They were fixed to pedestal-base ewers, but are normally now found detached
