A Roman copper-alloy mount.
The head of the mount is rectangular in plan, a deep longitudinal groove with central ridge dividing the upper surface into two equal-sized portions with convex surfaces. On the recessed underside, a stout rivet extends from the centre of a casting flash, terminating in a circular 'stop' which shows signs of having been hammered. The mount measures 20.7mm long, 20.4mm wide, 4.9mm thick (12.2mm including the rivet) and weighs 8.7g.
