A Medieval (1250-1450) copper alloy sheet metal strap-end, folded widthways. It measures 36.15x35.74x4.90mm and weighs 11.7g.
The backplate is plain with a rivet hole (c.1.6mm diameter) in each corner at the open end. The front plate has a crenellated edge, with a cut-out crescent at the centre and a cut-out V to either side. The rivet hole is below the centre of the V. one rivet survives intact.
Comparative examples in Egan and Pritchard (1991) date from the late 13th to the middle of the fifteenth century. Cf nos.578 to 587.
