Probably a small shield-shaped cast lead-alloy weight dating from the medieval or post-medieval period, i.e. c. AD1200-1600. The weight is very worn and the obverse decoration hardly visible anymore. Whilst the reverse is plain, the obverse is decorated with what is very likely a moulded lion rampant left. There is a perforation near the top of the weight which would have allowed the merchant to use the weight on the pans of weighing scales as well as weight on a steelyard weight.
NB The colouring was added post-discovery by the finder to make the pattern easier to identify. It is water colour and can be removed.
