An incomplete copper-alloy trumpet type brooch of Roman (late 1st to late 2nd century) date.
The head is oval in plan and has a circular chain loop on top. The spring is located at the centre of the underside of the head and is contained within a half-cylinder whose ends have semicircular caps. The spring has three coils, an internal chord and a remnant of the pin. The ends of the axis bar are located within perforations in the end caps. At the back, the diameter of the head gradually decreases, extending smoothly into the bow, which is of sub-oval section. Just above the point of the break is a lozenge-shaped moulding flanked by two transverse ridges; a third such ridge is located immediately above. The object measures 29.5mm long, up to 12.8mm wide (head) and weighs 5.6g.
