A copper-alloy Roman Colchester derivative Polden Hill brooch (flat wing ends type, Eastern Group) , dating from the 1st century AD.

The wings consist of a horizontally aligned half-cylinder with an integral circular cap on each end. The axis bar sits within perforations at the centre of these caps and also passes through a central perforated lug. The spring consists of nine coils of copper-alloy wire and an external chord, the latter of which is contained within a second perforated lug. The upper surface of each wing is decorated with a three pairs of parallel grooves, one pair located at each end, the other, angled pair in between. The top of the bow is set above the wings and is bent. It has a flat underside and a convex upper surface, at the centre of which is a double-stranded vertical ridge which tapers out halfway down. This central ridge is flanked by further, lower grooves and ridges. The lower portion of the bow is undecorated. The foot and catchplate are damaged. The brooch measures 36.5mm long, 33.2mm wide (head) and weighs 17.36g.
