BELL

Object type certainty: Certain

A sheet silver spherical bell dating from post 1710. The bell is made in three pieces; two semi-spherical halves and a separate attachment loop which is missing. There is a small rectangular slot in the centre of the upper half for the loop to fit into. There is a slit with a sound hole at each end in the lower half. The two halves are joined at a projecting median ridge. The lower half sheet is folded over the upper half above the ridge. The bell is somewhat flattened. In the opinion of Dora Thornton, the bell is less than 300 years old, so does not need to be declared under the 1996 Treasure Act despite being made of silver.
